Submitted materials on the psychology of recruiters.
This is not only knowledge for intelligence services. Recruitment is involved in all of everyday life – at work, and at home, among friends and girlfriends, with sales, hiring workers, new acquaintances.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECRUITERS – ‘THE CHURCH OF ASSOCIATION – SECTS’.

Below, in order to better understand the process of involvement in the “Church of the Unification”, fragments of recommendations with which the management of the organisation supplies its recruiters, as well as our comments explaining the purpose of these or other methods of influence, will be given. It should be noted that not all members of the organisation have any right whatsoever to receive such recommendations.

(I) First of all, you need to become a friend of the guest, for this, first of all, you should contact him/her with a smile and an underlined expression of love. (People often lack attention, communication, love. A sect fills it with a substitute for love. The task is to reveal a person to the more of communication, to make people around him/her be seen as friends in the sect, put away vigilance, which is quite natural, considering that the ‘guest/recruit ‘is  in in an unaccustomed environment and communicating with completely unfamiliar people).

(II)  Determine what the guest needs, ask about his/her family, about relationship with each relative, whether there are close friend whom trust is placed, what he/she doubts, dreams about, what plans he/she makes. (All this information must be recorded and provided to the coordinator. These actions solve the problem of collecting data on personal problems, likes and dislikes of a person, which is then used to manipulate them, that they share the same antipathies. Or, to establish contact with the person being recruited, he/she is introduced to an agent of influence who is close.

(III) It is necessary to provide super-attention (love), and then usually even the most difficult person becomes pliable. (This method is called ‘bombardment with love’; continuous flattery, super-intrusive attention of recruiters, every word of the person being recruited is met with ‘applause.’ A person begins to feel like an idol, and he/she likes that).

(IV) Enter confidence, be constantly aware of what a person is doing, but do not let him/her feel under scrutiny/observation. (A person is not protected from whom he/she trusts, which facilitates the work of the recruiter. Also, in order to invoke the new attitudes, it is necessary to instill to the guest that he/she > makes the choice voluntarily, < therefore the sect carefully hides that everything that happens is just a performance, goal whom – to recruit a person).

(V)  Incline the person being recruited to keep a personal diary on the proposed list of issues related to personal and family secrets. (Through a diary, recruiters receive information regarding the person’s inner world; about their experiences and fears, which makes it possible to adjust the methods of influence used against them).

(VI) Encourage members to share diaries with each other. (Such an exchange creates the illusion of trusting relationships, a kind of psychological intimacy between sect followers).

(VII) Be sure to report at headquarters meetings on everything that was noticed in the guests’ reactions during the lectures. (The recruiter is just a cog in the sect system. The recruitment process is not the result of the recruiter’s personal creativity, it is rather a rolling technology, the recruiter should simply follow the already existing instructions).

(VIII) Follow the requirements of the Principle, get the guests to reassess their beliefs and make them want to change their lifestyle. (The principle is the religious system that the ‘universe’ obeys, its faith. The recruiter’s ultimate goal is to force the person to reconsider his/her life values, abandon the old ones and accept the new values preached by the sect).

(IX) At the extended seminar (can last up to three weeks), be the subject of love, find out everything about the guest, add new information regarding him/her to checklist every day, encourage the recruiting subject to solve all his problems with you (nb. The point of view here). (In sects they do not encourage individualism and wean followers from independence. From the very beginning a person is taught that now he/she has someone who thinks for them, they must only obey).

(XI). In no case are criticisms and questions allowed of the organisation. (In sects, all forms of criticism are forbidden, no doubt. In practice, this is often achieved by using the following trick :

A person who starts asking uncomfortable questions falls into a psychological blockade. He/she was just an idol and suddenly the attitude to him/her changes dramatically. Thus, the implement of ‘carrot and stick’ method; if you do not ask unnecessary questions, then you are an ‘idol’, if you ask, people take their eyes away from you, smiles disappear, a reproach is read in your eyes. Very quickly a person understands how he/she should behave. This psychological pressure method is often very effective).

(XII) The sect confers upon the leadership of their sect the right to choose life partners. Thereby precluding the notion of choosing to marry, to have a relationship of choice.

See ‘Mind Control Techniques’ for a longer and more in depth discussion. * An Officer of the Unit entered a church sect in the US so to gain experience first hand of seduction / mind control techniques, and to investigate the collective psychological frame including the social backdrop of seductees.

PSYCHOLOGY (IN BRIEF) OF THE FEMALE TERRORIST – SUICIDE BOMBER

At the end of the twentieth century, some researchers of terrorism were forced to state its relative ‘feminization’. In many Western European countries, women accounted for between one-quarter and one-half of the total composition of terrorist groups : 47% in Germany, 44 in Italy, 46 in France, 21% in Spain, etc. Terrorist groups made up exclusively of women were formed by the Nepalese Maoists and the Kurdistan Workers Party. Especially many women include terrorist structures established in Germany, Latin America and Palestine. Women stood at the origins of such famous organisations as the Italian ‘Red Brigades’, the ‘Japanese Red Army’, and the American ‘United Army of Liberation’.

For a long time, the chief of staff and in fact the organisational leader and inspirer of the Basque separatist group ETA (M’otherland and Freedom of the Basques’) was a woman. The Mexican left-extremist organization B2M, better known as the ‘Union of Separatists’, was ruled by a woman for a long time. Women also played a significant role in the creation and activities of the Red Army Faction (YALG) that operated in the Federal Republic of Germany, which was considered as a symbol and standard of left-wing terrorism in Western Europe.

Thus, women took part in many aspects of the activities of terrorist organisations, but for a long time their mass involvement in two types of activit; in working with informants and committing suicidal acts — was not noted. However, at the turn of the XX and XXI centuries. the situation has changed significantly: terrorist structures are increasingly using female suicides.

A number of scientists are of the opinion that the type of suicide bomber is formed under the influence of various social and psychological factors. The group of social factors consists of the political and economic level of development of society, historical and cultural conditions, the degree of discontent and resentment of citizens, the vector of offense, the effectiveness of counter-terrorism measures. Social problems structure the conditions that contribute to terrorism. Cities provide a powerful potential for accumulating social problems, weapons and explosives are more accessible. Such structural components interact with the psychological factors of individual susceptibility to this type of activity, and all this provokes terrorism. The crisis in society, when interacting with structural factors, contributes to an increase in the level of violence.

A distinctive feature of modern suicidal terror is that the performers are often not poorly educated and have psychological problems from poor families, but seemingly quite successful young people.

The desire of women toward terrorist activities in modern conditions may be due to protest against the existing social reality, the place and role of women in society. In many countries, it is the inability to participate in ordinary forms of political activity that pushes women towards terrorism. Women are not influential, and their role in life is invisible, this is what makes women especially attractive to terrorists.

In 2003, various studies were conducted and it was found that a female terrorist does not arouse any special suspicions among those around her.

The growing number of female suicide bombers in different countries suggests that terrorist networks intelligently process suicide-prone individuals. It is easier to prepare women for the role of a suicide bomber; they are more manageable than men and more effectively exposed to psychological influence; they are less attracted by the attention of security personnel, it is easier for them to hide an explosive device on their bodies and without any obstacles to reach the target. Women, due to the inherent features of nervous activity (higher mobility, emotionality, excitability, etc.), faster than men become aggressive. Psychologists and psychiatrists come to the conclusion that some genetic features are the reason that female aggression, like female alcoholism, is difficult to transform or treat.

It is hardly possible to create a holistic portrait of a terrorist and to speak of him as a clearly defined type of personality, characterised by a set of specific sociological and psychological traits peculiar to everyone without exception. Terrorists, like any other category of criminals, are diverse in many respects, and it is impossible to bring them under a common denominator. In this regard, it is difficult to define the notion of ‘the identity of a terrorist’; it would be incorrect. Terrorism is born and matures in long-term social and personal processes, and a typical terrorist does not exist.

Therefore, it is more logical to speak only about the most frequently encountered psychological characteristics of terrorists, as well as about the characteristics of persons potentially dangerous in terms of possible terrorist activities.

Nevertheless, it should be noted that suicide bombers, the so-called black widows and brides of Allah :

Black widows are widows or closest relatives of members of illegal armed groups who died in battle. After the death of their husbands or relatives, they are in fact slaves of militants.

When recruiting them, the fact of widowhood is used. Women are told that they have become a burden for relatives. They are told that they are sinners and punished by Allah, who robbed them of their husbands, and therefore they need to atone for their sins by fulfilling their duty to their people. These women are sometimes subjected to violent drug addiction, during which they endlessly repeat religious sayings in Arabic. Listening to incomprehensible words and making rhythmic gestures, they enter into a trance, and in such a state they are inspired to commit an act of self-sacrifice. It is important to note that some black widows have been diagnosed with mental disorders.
The brides of Allah are usually young girls, most often from Wahhabi families, where women are instilled in the cult of worshiping a man, or girls who have grown up without their own father and who do not have a blood feud, that is, who will avenge her shame or death. They are ‘kidnapped’, allegedly taken as wives, and then used for various purposes (for example, they shoot sex scenes on a video camera). These women have no chance of getting married or returning to the family – disgraced, nobody needs them. Among such suicide bombers there are unspoiled, God-fearing girls who are ready to accept the martyr’s death after a massive psychological attack. The victim begins to move away from their own family gradually. The family for her is Jamaat – the Wahhabi community, where all are brothers and sisters to each other. All the time, the girl is under the watchful eye of a mentor and instructor. They communicate with her almost around the clock, winding up the victim emotionally; They talk a lot on the subject of sacred struggle, paradise, peace, duty. With the future ‘living bomb’, the Quran and Wahhabi literature are read aloud, quoting and repeating selected places. If, after some time, the required changes in the woman’s mind do not occur, the instructors use drugs or psychotropic drugs that drown out the will and make a puppet out of a person.

In the investigation of the circumstances of the terrorist acts, a number of regularities are singled out, which together can present a typical scheme for recruiting and training suicide bombers.

(I) Search for potential candidates. Mostly they pay attention to God-fearing, weak-willed, pitiful girls and women, a close mind, sometimes extremely limited. It is desirable that the candidates killed one of the relatives, and no matter in battle or as a civilian. On this basis, in the future it will be easier to incite blind hatred in them. The ideal portrait of a potential suicide bomber – unhappy, lonely, infantile.

It is believed that almost all future ‘shahidki’ are widows or relatives of killed militants, which supposedly should create a kind of ‘great martyr’ and ‘heroic’ aura. However, this is not always the case.

For example : One of the favourable conditions for the education of a future suicide bomber can be considered the atmosphere of radical Wahhabism cultivated in some families. Thus, a 20-year-old native of a town or village (though not confined to) who has grown up in such an environment, explodes herself at a concert of rock music, from childhood onwards was cultivated in a man’s cult. Despite the young age, these women manage to get married twice, both times for Arab mercenaries, also Wahhabis. All marriages are committed without the consent of the bride, by the decision of her own elder brother. Both marriages brake up, there are no children. When the elder brother is killed in a battle with the western forces, and after a while the younger brother, the woman already knows that she has to ‘take revenge’ for the brothers. One can confidently say that the Wahhabis, for several years shaped the girl’s personal life and worldview, purposefully prepared a ‘suicide bomber’ out of her.

Thus, future suicide bombers are usually young, and this is not accidental – in adolescence the self-preservation instinct is lowered, and there are fewer social responsibilities, such as responsibility for the family. Consequently, these women are essentially emotional beings, due to the stress they have experienced, are more suggestible, have a reduced level of criticality and self-esteem, and many of them have enough reasons to initiate further desire (or responsibility) to avenge. This is the ‘source material’.

Involvement in a terrorist organisation. A typical method is abduction. Thus, during the investigations it often turns out that the woman was deceived and abducted.

Other common ways of involving women in a terrorist organisation are; blackmail, intimidation, and coercion.

During 1997, the Kavkaz and Taliban field camps were opened near Serzhen-Yurt, in which militants under the leadership of Arab instructors underwent sabotage, religious and ideological training. In one of the camps there was a special department for women. According to intelligence data, the graduates of these camps carried out major terrorist attacks on western targets during the late 90s – early 2000s.

In addition to the category of women who become suicide bombers on the principle of ‘death for death’, there are women who enter the path of suicidal terrorism solely for mercantile reasons. Some relatives of the terrorists killed receive several thousand dollars – later stated at the court sessions.

Psychological treatment. This is one of the most important stages in the preparation of the bomber. A desirable element is the isolation of women, keeping them in a closed environment, for example, in a camp for training terrorists. At the initial stage, they are also ‘treated’ by women, as a rule, of middle or older age. Objective; to gain confidence in the victim, to make her feel in her soul mate, to cause sympathy. Emphasising the ‘special’ attitude to her, the girl is told that she is more – not a village girl, but a fighter, moreover, the future heroine, surrounded by the respect of her comrades. The real representation of the person thus approaches the desired. The use of various psychotropic materials is often a common method of terrorists. When the mind of a potential suicide bomber is clouded with drugs, it starts talking to her about how to ‘well and honourably’ blow up the infidels and go straight to paradise.

The thought is also being imposed that even if she grew up in a large, impoverished family, ‘comrades in the struggle’ will not leave loved ones in distress, she is now the hope of the whole clan or teip. In other words, girls form the values of the micro-social environment. Dogmatic-religious or national, political, social views can influence the assessment of the microcosm of a future suicide bomber. The rest of the world, according to the suggested future ‘shahidka’ ideas, should be perceived as something hostile, alien, deserving only contempt

The ‘hard’ way of psychological treatment can be considered such when candidates for suicide bombers, first, were constantly reproached for being still alive (thereby causing a feeling of ‘guilt’ before the dead ‘fighters for the faith’), and the second was raped and beaten, trying to break their psyche and achieve agreement on subversive activities. As some experts emphasise, sexual abuse during the preparation of a future suicide bomber often acts as the most effective psycho-technological device, since it fundamentally breaks the psychology of many  women. She becomes ‘unclean’, she does not have a husband to intercede for her. And then the future ‘shahidka’ is explained that she has the only chance left to ‘atone for sin’; to kill as many infidels as possible. After such prolonged torture, the unfortunate are ready for anything, so long as the torment ceases.

The ultimate goal of psychological treatment of humiliated, deceived, seduced women, however, remains solely the voluntary desire to go to death. It is believed that a disinterested readiness to die should be an indispensable condition for a woman’s readiness to act of terrorism. Otherwise, as the direct organisers and leaders of such training, such women will be considered ‘incompetent’, which later at any moment may lead to the disruption of the operation.

The final stage of the training of future suicide bombers is special training. It continues, as a rule, for several months and includes the study of the basics of an explosive case, the rules of conspiracy, the methods and methods of regular and emergency communications, etc.
