On Dealing With Fear – Supplemental Note

(C-III)
Fear provoking is this life to everyone. As the German poet Heinrich Heine said, ‘one has nothing to fear only a fool’. It has to be said that the suppressing of fear will prove to be an impossible feat. However, the mental processes are largely dependent on physiological processes such that fear can in fact be fooled. Everyone knows how in moments of danger the heart begins to pound, the pulse heightens and there is the accompanying ‘jitter’s. Therefore it is useful to consider that the psychological mechanism of general excitement, the situational fear in concrete fighting time and the excitation mechanism through sexual contact is the same. Released into the blood stream is adrenaline and other hormones to mobilize various body systems in readiness for immediate actions needed to survive.
As stated above, when one becomes scared one’s heart starts pounding and one becomes breathless, in the moment one is aware of real danger. Further practice guidance by the knowledgeable instructor is therefore very useful. Incidentally, some snipers very successfully nullify the ‘jitters’ and unnecessary pulsation. It is very useful to transform this state of so-called battle of excitation. Once one feels the chill in the heart, it means that the adrenaline has started to stand out.
Intended by the adrenaline, physical action is required to survive. Therefore here are a few tips; inhale deeply and exhale, tighten the chest, shoulder girdle, abdominal, back and legs. On the inhale, relax, post hands to oneself. On the exhale, tighten again, post arms forward, turning the movement into shock. Then comes the desired phase; excitation combat, in which not only are there increases in physical strength, but also the so called short-term endurance or improved coordination of movements and an aggravated perceptual system. Many individuals come to the state in battle affect which disables the consciousness and the body is triggered automatically performing only correct complexes military movements.
